Dr. Ellsworth grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska with an array of animals including many sled dogs, pet dogs, horses, and a cat. The only thing she ever wanted to do was to become a veterinarian when she grew up. She moved to Iowa to be near family and attended the University of Iowa to earn her undergraduate degree (go Hawks!) but became a Cyclone fan too while attending Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine. During veterinary school, she was able to spend extra time with exotic animals both in the hospital and at the Blank Park Zoo. She had the honor of working with many diverse animals from zebras to flamingos.
She has a variety of passions in veterinary medicine including small exotic animals and pocket pets, soft tissue surgery, and physical therapy.
Dr. Ellsworth loves to travel to Dubuque, Iowa to visit family and go boating on the Mississippi River. In her free time, she has a passion for volunteering. Her volunteer activities over the years have included fostering dogs and cats for a local animal rescue, bringing her therapy pug to visit with hospice patients, and training shelter dogs some basic obedience skills to help them become more adoptable.
