Dr. Collins was born and raised in rural northeast Iowa. She graduated from Loras College in 2004 with a major in Biology, and a minor in Chemistry. She received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008.
After graduating from vet school, she practiced emergency small animal medicine for ~2.5 years (First in Colorado Springs and then in Des Moines). After leaving emergency medicine, she started the MPH program for practicing veterinarians at the University of Iowa. I also joined the US Army Reserve's Veterinary Corps, which she thoroughly enjoy! Until she completes the MPH program, she is working as a relief veterinarian.
She shares her home with her husband and 3 dogs and a cat. She describes her pet as very needy and they demand a lot of attention! In her free time, she loves to read books, cook, go kayaking, hiking, or do anything outdoors. She is also quite fond of eating at different restaurants. Her favorites are Sushi, Thai, and Italian! She has a deep love and passion for traveling. She has been to about 14 countries. She has a particular fondness for zoonotic diseases and epidemiology.
